"GRACE"
by Byron Davis
How you layed it out so clearly,
While from you I tried to hide,
Still holding me ever so dearly,
But unchanging was this divide!
I wouldn’t listen to your words,
As you calmly explained your case,
Your hand would reach out earnestly,
But I threw it back in your face.
Your arms remained wide open,
Without a hint of strife,
But I turned my back upon you,
Content with living my life!
So time passed like the winds,
As the rift between us grew
Living my life the way I wanted to live,
And never giving you your due.
But what purpose was there, if any,
As I chose to never yield,
The pleasure and moments of raw ecstasy,
Left me empty and unfulfilled.
Existence became a hassle,
And my soul began to ache,
I looked back to find you still waiting,
But of course I refused to break.
Then death, it came upon me,
And I welcomed death’s sweet embrace,
But I found that my being had gone unharmed,
And your son stood there dying in my place.
So with tears that fell upon the ground,
“I NEVER ASKED YOU FOR YOUR GRACE!”
But while trying to justify or even convince,
I’m eternally grateful you took my place.
So unworthy I stood beside you,
A product of my own persistence,
While Jesus stood there in all of His glory,
The most beautiful in all existence.
"PROVERB"
by Nethaneel Lankford
On a journey, a fool keeps looking back to what's behind him, but a bigger fool keeps his eyes on his feet.
For when the fool who keeps his eyes on what's behind him trips, he will know when he is off his path, but he who keeps his eyes on his feet is easily lost from his final destination.
The wise man keeps his eyes straight ahead, walks to his goal and has faith his feet will carry him there.
